Madison company selling alcohol online now facing fines
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison company that sold alcohol online and delivered it to University of Wisconsin-Madison students could face some severe fines.
The city has filed a complaint in court against Danny Haber and Matthew Siegel, who operated Campusdrank.com. The store that provided the alcohol for delivery is also facing potential citations.
Madison city attorney says it's illegal to deliver alcohol without a face-to-face-transaction at a store. The company could be fined up to $400,000 for failing to have a liquor license.
The Campusdrank website has been shut down. It allowed customers to order bottles of hard liquor, beer and other items like shot glasses and plastic cups. The State Journal says the company delivered to hundreds of customers, mainly students, and charged a $2 delivery fee.
