MADISON (WKOW) -- Thirty-four boaters were greeted with parking tickets when they left their SUVs and trucks with boat trailers in a designated overflow parking area at Madison's Marshall Park.
A city parks official told WKOW27 News Sunday's ticketing was all a mistake.
Madison Parks community relations director Laura Whitmore said a new park warden issued tickets based on a city policy banning parking on grass areas for all parks.
But Whitmore said Marshall is the one exception, with the marked, overflow parking on a section of the parks' grass.
The warden missed the exception, even though there is a short, dirt trail beneath posted signs identifying the overflow parking area.
Whitmore said people need to send in a letter to explain their legal parking in order for tickets to be dismissed.
