MONONA (WKOW)-- 1,520 meals arrived at homes in Madison, Middleton and Monona last week alone through Home Health United's Meals on Wheels. Six hundred-fifty volunteers make it happen year round.
People going above and beyond by giving back to their community is what the Jefferson Awards stands for. Bob Eby is this month's Jefferson Award recipient.
Bob Eby has delivered for Home Health United's Meals on Wheels program since 1997.
"I like doing it," said Bob. "People like to see me come."
"Well hello, how are you today," said Bob. She responds "I'm fine."
The 84-year-old has regular routes on Thursday's and Friday's.
"They both go in the fridge today," said Bob. "Picnic lunch. You're welcome. See you next week again."
Delivering 9 meals today.
"I grew up on a farm and we learned to help people who needed help," said Bob. "And this is one way of giving back."
"How do I feel about him? He's the best," said Aagot Thorpe.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday he also picks up extra routes or fills in when others can't.
"In addition to delivering these meals, he knows the people," said Sue Barker. "He know when something is wrong. He'll go out and plow their driveways."
"Another one had a shelf she wanted put up," said Bob. "She wanted her son to do it but he hadn't done it for 2 years. So, I went back and took care of it."
By the sound of it Bob's car may will give in before he does!
"I plan on doing it until I'm 100," said Bob.
