MADISON (WKOW) -- Memorial day will hold special meaning for one Madison-based unit.
The 911th Forward Surgical Team will leave for a month-long training in Washington Monday. From there, they'll be deployed to Iraq next month.
The team held a farewell ceremony with family and friends Sunday afternoon. They provide surgical care for soldiers in battle.
Captain James Lenoach, with the 911th, says, "It's exciting to perform our mission, which is saving soldiers on the battlefield. That's what we look forward to."
There are 20 soldiers in the unit. The deployment is expected to last a year.
