UPDATE: Water search has ended for 9-year-old missing in Lake Michigan
TOWN OF HOLLAND (WKOW) -- Authorities say the water rescue for a missing Illinois girl on Lake Michigan has ended without any sight of the girl.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department say 9-year-old Sofia Khan was kayaking with her family when she fell out and strong winds blew her kayak about 20 yards off shore in the Town of Holland Wednesday night. The caller said the young girl was not wearing a life jacket.
The girl's father tried to reach his daughter, but found an empty kayak.
A Coast Guard helicopter from Traverse City, Mich., participated in the search for the girl who authorities say is from the Chicago area.
Sheriff's officials say they will monitor the beaches, but have ended their search on the water.
