Dozens of Democrats speak at state party convention
MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin's Democratic Party is holding its annual convention this weekend at the Marriott Hotel.
Dozens of party leaders and elected officials are speaking, including Senators Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl, state Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan and Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz.
On Friday night, speakers talked about the importance of focusing on the economy during the fall elections and also took shots at Republicans.
"Democrats have a very important and proud story to tell," said Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton, who bowed out of the governor's race earlier this year. "It's not just jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, which you hear everyone say. It's jobs as a signal of a healthy and prosperous and inclusive economy."
The party's convention continues on Saturday.
