MADISON (WKOW) -- Pirates took over Lake Mendota. It was all part of Pirates Day on the Memorial Union.
The event was put on by The Hoofers Sailing Club. More than 150 people in pirate gear boarded boats, hunted for buried treasure and battled other teams on competing vessels.
Its part of a 25 year tradition.
"It's really evolved into quite the event, the college students look forward to it, there are people from the community who come out and take advantage of it and really have a great time," said Pirates Day creator Tom Barry.
The pirate party ended with a Caribbean dinner.
