NEW ORLEANS (WKOW) -- BP announced a halt on drilling of a relief well expected to stop the Gulf of Mexico oil leak while they test a temporary cap.
Senior Vice President of BP Kent Wells said drilling on the well may be stopped by up to 48 hours.
The relief well was designed as a precautionary measure to plug the underground leak with mud and cement.
The cap currently being tested is a procedure to keep the oil contained or funnel it out to ships until the relief well is completed.
