SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Dennis Galston sat down earlier this month like he always does and wrote two checks.

One, for $650 to his landlord.

Another, for $175 to Charter Communications.

The only problem?

He accidentally mixed up the envelopes and sent the checks to the wrong party.

"My landlord called and said, 'we're not Charter Communications,'" Galston told WKOW. "They were nice about it."

Galston called for action after he says Charter wasn't "nice" about the mix-up.

Charter cashed the rent check, even though it wasn't made out to them and was for an amount much higher than Galston's typical cable bill.

"Did somebody not notice the check wasn't made out to them?" asked Galston.

That resulted in Galston's bank account becoming overdrawn.  He was hit was $41 in fees.

Charter refused repeated requests for an on-camera interview or phone call.  It did, however, credit Galston's cable bill for that $41 in overdraft fees.

In a statement, Charter wrote:

As with most companies that process a large volume of customer payments on a daily basis, whether through the mail, electronic withdrawal or online, that process is automated in order to efficiently manage the volume. When this customer contacted us to let us know about his misdirected rent check, we immediately proceeded to process and send him a refund for the appropriate amount.

Galston accepts part of the blame; he did, after all, send Charter the wrong check.
