MADISON (WKOW) --  WKOW partnered with the American Red Cross and Tweedee Productions to honor people who have made a difference in our communities. They are this year's Red Cross Real Heroes.

We honor a man who has given of himself, literally, to save others. It makes Bob Naylor 'Someone You Should Know.'

"I started driving after retiring from the State of Wisconsin 4 years ago," said Bob Naylor.

Bob Naylor spent his career with the state following statistics. Now, he's racked up some pretty impressive numbers as a volunteer regional driver for the American Red Cross.

I drive about 30 times a month and I log about 3-thousand miles a month," said Bob. "Over 4 years, I've driven over a thousand times and over 100 thousand miles."

The miles on this day are between the Badger Chapter Headquarters and the UW's Red Gym.

"I feel that I'm doing something to help people in worse shape than I am," said Bob. "It makes me feel good."

Bob picks up blood products from drives like this and delivers them back to the lab for processing. Bob is also quite comfortable doing the same thing these people are doing. He's tallied some impressive numbers making donations of his own.

"I've given over 25 gallons over 30 years," said Bob.

That translates to about 600 lives saved. Bob and his wife also coordinate a "one-a-week" donor club and blood drives at Lake Edge United Church of Christ.

"God & Society has given me a good life and career," said Bob. "I wanted to give back to society and this is the way of doing that."

Bob says he'll continue giving back as long as he can. And, while he's honored to be a Hero from the Heart, he's not quite comfortable with being called a hero yet.

"I feel I'm just doing a job that needs to be done so," said Bob.

So, he'll keep adding to his impressive statistics.
