Company fined $2.4M for pipeline explosion in Minnesota
UNDATED (WKOW) -- The federal Department of Transportation fined Enbridge Energy $2.4 million for a pipeline explosion that killed two workers from Wisconsin.
In 2007, the pipeline exploded near Clearbrook, Minnesota and started a fire. Two welders from Superior, Wisconsin were killed.
A federal investigation in 2008 found Enbridge committed eight probable violations prior to the accident. The company has previously said the federal findings were consistent with its own internal investigation.
The accident also caused $2 million in property damage and caused world oil prices to spike.
