NEW ORLEANS (WKOW) -- Monday the federal government will begin work to remove a temporary cap keeping oil from gushing out of BP's blown-out well in the Gulf.
The procedure needs to be done so they can raise a key piece of equipment from the seabed.
Crews will then raise out the failed blowout preventer. That is a key piece of evidence to help determine what caused the rig explosion in April that then unleashed the gushing oil
The goal is to drill the final 50 feet of a relief well beginning Sept. 7. The relief well has been called the ultimate solution to plugging the well.
