MADISON (WKOW) -- The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon is a Labor Day tradition at WKOW.
The Madison area raised $343,392 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Nationwide, donations and pledges totaled $58.9 million.
Donations help pay for clinic visits, research, the MDA summer camp, and wheelchair repairs.
"The money that we raised today goes to provide help and hope for the families that we serve locally," said Heather Micoley, MDA regional coordinator. "It really is a great opportunity for MDA to get their message out and their story."
The 45th annual telethon originated for the fifth consecutive year from the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas. It reached some 40 million viewers through 170 television stations.
