MIAMI (WKOW) -- Hurricane Julia has formed far out over the Atlantic, becoming the fifth hurricane of the season.
Julia has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, and is expected to strengthen over the next day or so.
The hurricane is about 330 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands, where Hurricane Igor originated as a tropical storm.
Hurricane Igor is downgraded to Category 4. It is moving west-northwest toward Bermuda.
The National Hurricane Center says Igor will begin to affect Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands Tuesday night and Wednesday.
It should remain over open water until early next week.
MIAMI (WKOW) -- Tropical Storm Igor is barely moving in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa near the Cape Verde Islands.
The storm caused winds of up to almost 40 mph early Thursday. It has been moving south of the Cape Verde Islands but is expected to move toward the west-northwest later Thursday.
A tropical storm watch has been issued for the southern Cape Verde Islands.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm should strengthen Friday.
