Madison (WKOW) -- Duck season is about to begin in northern Wisconsin.
The State Department of Natural Resources biologists say waterfowl game species are healthy and abundant as the northern zone season opens on Sept. 25. They say a rainy summer contributed to a great brood-rearing habitat.
The DNR suggests hunters lookout for good wetland conditions, because hunters who do so harvest more than twice the ducks than hunters who don't.
The northern zone season will remain open through Nov. 23. The southern zone season opens on Oct. 2. It closes on Oct. 10, and will resume on Oct. 16 and continue through mid-December.
