MIAMI (WKOW) -- A hurricane warning has been issued and is in effect for the coastal areas of Nicaragua and Honduras as Tropical Storm Matthew travels toward Central America.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami say Matthew has a maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Additional strengthening is predicted and Matthew could become a hurricane later in the day on Friday.
A hurricane watch is in effect for the coast of Belize. A tropical storm warning is also in effect from Limon, Honduras to the Guatemala border. The tropical storm is located about 240 miles east of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, and traveling west at 16 mph.
Meanwhile, far out over the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Lisa is moving slowly northwest with maximum sustained winds around 40 mph.
