Holiday mailing deadlines for military families


MADISON (WKOW) -- The U.S. Postal Service has announced its first deadline for mailing holiday packages to military members serving overseas.

Friday, November 12 is the deadline for packages mailed by Parcel Post to all Air/Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) zip codes.

The Postal Service sends APO or FPO mail on special charter flights to reach armed services members as quickly as possible. All military mail is sent by domestic mail rate.

The Postal Service also offers Military Care Kits, containing free shipping supplies. Each kit contains six Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes, six customs forms and envelopes, six Priority address labels and one roll of Priority tape. To find out how to get a kit, go to

"There may be no bigger morale booster than mail for our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen and Coast Guardsmen during the holidays," said Madison Postmaster Paul Nistler. " Packages and letters bring them closer to family and to the comforts of home.
