MADISON (WKOW)-- Three people, including two University of Minnesota students, are dead following a crash early Thursday morning on Interstate 39 near Madison.

Wisconsin State Patrol says a car driven by Bradley Erickson, 31, of Madison, was traveling southbound on the interstate when he ran into a car parked on the median shoulder near mile marker 134.

The driver of car and two passengers inside died. Marcus Johnson, 19, from Milwaukee and Wilfredo, 23, from Puerto Rico died on scene. Elysia Rapp, 20, of Milwaukee was taken to UW Hospital where she later died. Two other people were not hurt.

University spokesman Ryan Maus tells the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that two of the students were with the university's Spirit Squad, a cheerleading squad. Maus says the students were driving home from the Twin Cities to Milwaukee when the crash happened.

Erickson has been arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence and more charges are pending.

The investigation into the crash continues.
