CLARIFICATION: A lengthy story reported earlier this week about Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk's coming resignation contained language that could have led viewers to an incorrect inference. Falk plans to resign in April 2011 with the intent that a replacement be chosen in that month's regular election. Subsequent to that announcement, a spokesperson for the government accountability board said Falk would have to resign by December 28, for that to occur. The end of our report contained two paragraphs dealing with Falk's potential pension benefits including the sentence "Resigning in April may have implications for Falk's retirement." Subsequent research shows that Falk gains negligible, if any personal financial advantage by staying on until April. In fact, withdrawing her resignation and completing her term would allow her to collect a full pension. Her present plan leaves her two years short of non-penalty pension benefits. We apologize for the misunderstanding.
