FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- The four day antlerless-only deer season started October 14, in Wisconsin's chronic wasting disease management zone.
The disease zone makes up about 9,000 square miles in southern Wisconsin.
Under state earn-a-buck regulations, hunters must kill an antlerless deer in the zone before they can take a buck. The Department of Natural Resources says earn-a-buck offers the best method for thinning the herd in the disease zone.
This antlerless season gives hunters a chance to qualify early to take bucks.
