DETROIT (WKOW) -- A Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas 2009 is returning to court without his defense lawyers.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab will represent himself when he appears for a pretrial hearing Thursday in Detroit federal court. He will have counsel present who can give him advice.
The 24-year-old is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253, from Amsterdam. Abdulmutallab is accused of trying to set off explosives hidden in his underwear.
In September, he suggested he wanted to plead guilty to some charges.
