Two soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Posted:

KABUL (WKOW) -- The deadliest year for international forces in Afghanistan continues.  NATO says two service members have been killed in separate attacks in southern Afghanistan today.

One was killed in an insurgent attack and the other by a roadside bomb. NATO didn't give their nationalities.

Two Taliban commanders were also reported killed in separate incidents.

Violence in southern Afghanistan has risen in recent months as NATO and Afghan forces try to seize control of the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar.

At least 46 NATO service members have been killed so far this month, and more than 2,000 have died since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion.
