GREEN BAY, Wis. (WKOW) -- Two men have been charged with stealing after they took a diamond worth $4,300 from a jeweler in Green Bay.
Howard Tate, 22, of Green Bay, and Terrance Bridges, 39, of Allouez, were each charged Friday with being party to the theft at Bay Area Diamond Co.
According to a criminal complaint, the men pretended to be shopping for a diamond Tuesday. One man dropped the diamond, then attempted to replace it with cubic zirconium. The clerk called them on it, but the men ran. The diamond was recovered at a Milwaukee pawnshop.
Police say they arrested Bridges the next day for an alleged retail theft. After comparing video surveillance, they linked him to the diamond theft.
Bridges helped police find Tate by agreeing to buy drugs from him, reports The Green Bay Press-Gazette.
