LOS ANGELES (WKOW) -- Federal regulators say they have launched an investigation into decorated drinking glasses that tested positive for high levels of lead.
Lab testing commissioned by The Associated Press revealed lead counts up to 1,000 times the limit for children's products. The glasses depicted comic book and movie characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Shrek.
A spokesman for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Monday that the agency considers the glasses to be children's products and is currently getting samples for its own testing.
The manufacturer told AP that the glasses passed its testing and that they are targeted toward adult collectors.
