WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- President Barack Obama is urging China to free Nobel Peace Prize recipient Liu Xiaobo.
Obama said Liu stands for universal human values and should be released from prison as soon as possible.
Liu's wife is being kept under house arrest.
His prize will not be handed out at the Nobel ceremony Friday in Oslo because no one close to him can accept it.
Obama says he regrets that Liu and his wife cannot attend the ceremony as he and the first lady did when Obama won the peace prize last year.
"Liu Xiaobo is far more deserving of this award than I was," he said.
