MADISON (WKOW) -- Representative Tammy Baldwin was the keynote speaker at this years Information Technology Academy Holiday Luncheon held Saturday, Dec. 11.
She spoke to students about the rigors of a college education and explained how technology is a central part to almost every career. Baldwin says breakthroughs in technology have also posed some challenges. Most recently, the release of hundreds of confidential government documents by the group WikiLeaks.
"We know as we advance we also have challenges we need to respond to," said Baldwin. "But we need to do it in a way that doesn't hold our economy back, but allows us to take full advantage of technology out there while balancing privacy and security concerns."
"We really want to conclude our business and give American people assurances that the middle class tax cuts will be extended and vast majority of people will not see a tax cut on January first. With that said, we have to do so in a responsible way. A lot of the focus in the midterm elections were about being fiscally responsible and so we can afford to do it where it in debts our nation for decades to come," she said.
