MADISON (WKOW) -- As snow continues to accumulate in the city, roads are becoming very slick - some nearly impassable.
Many drivers heading south on Whitney Way near Mineral Point had to turn around Saturday night, because conditions were too difficult.
"It's going to be a difficult commute for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday," said Streets Superintendent Al Schumacher.
Plunging temperatures will make salt de-icers ineffective, he said, and rain before the snowstorm means roads could get icy.
"I think it's important for folks to know, if you don't need to travel, don't. Stay home," said Madison Police Officer Brian Chaney.
Winter weather has a way of making little things go awry.
At a gas station on Odana and Gammon, Jacqueline Bilek was trying to rescue her daughter.
"She stopped for some gas, and she forgot the keys inside. We just came with whatever we could," she said.
Others had no problem getting in the car, it was the next step that was the problem.
"We live in Iowa... and now our car won't start," said Kim Harris.
