JANESVILLE (WKOW)-- Domestic abuse is a very real problem. Some haven't found the strength to leave. When they do a Rock County hair dresser wants to help in their journey of recovery.
It makes Rachel Teubert 'Someone You Should Know.'
Lindsey is enjoying a day of pampering.
"It's nice," said Lindsey. "It's relaxing, very relaxing."
Lindsey deserves it.
"I want to be independent," said Lindsey. "I don't want to have to depend on anybody; be a good role model for my daughter. I want to show her that you don't need somebody to help you accomplish any of your goals."
Lindsey left an abusive relationship.
"Emotional, physical," said Lindsey. "It stated out as more emotional and then it led to the physical abuse."
"When people feel good on the outside it definitely helps on the inside," said Jeni.
Jeni Sauser at Studio 107 Salon in Janesville is donating her time and services for a program called Ruby Violet.
"I think we can make her feel better about herself," said Jeni.
Ruby Violet is a non-profit aimed at helping domestic abuse victims regain their confidence.
"I just feel like it takes an enormous amount of courage for women to leave a relationship that's not healthy," said Rachel.
Ruby Violet was Rachel Teubert's idea.
"Women that leave relationships like that are often really deprived from feeling good about themselves and what a way to give back," said Rachel.
"We can help bring their self esteem back by just having them feel like they look good," said Rachel.
Rachel's goal is to have Ruby Violet help women out of a traveling RV. Until they can raise enough money, women will go to the salons around town, like Studio 107, that participate in the program.
"I think getting on board with this they will get back way more than they give," said Jeni.
You can tell a day at the salon will definitely help Lindsey continue down her road to recovery.
I asked Lindsey what she sees when she looks in the mirror today.
"I see somebody that is starting to get stronger and starting to have more confidence and more faith in myself," said Lindsey.
Donations to the Ruby Violet project can be mailed to the YWCA, 1735 S. Washington St., Janesville.
Salons and stylists wishing to participate should e-mail RubyVioletRRR@gmail.com or call (608)346-4808.
