MADISON (WKOW) -- State wildlife officials are planning to count deer in the chronic wasting disease zone from the air.
The Department of Natural Resources will conduct the survey by helicopter and plane over the next few weeks. Helicopter surveys will take place about 100 feet above tree-top level at speeds around 35 mph. Pilots will fly higher if they see livestock in the area.
Officials say they have completed some of the surveys in the eastern portion of the disease zone.
DNR biologists hope to complete their work by the end of January, but that depends on the weather.
