MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- The man responsible for the shotgun slaying of a Milwaukee candy shop owner will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Joevone Martell Jordanm, 23, was convicted in October of first-degree intentional homicide and attempted armed robbery in the killing of 77-year-old Roland Haefner. Haefner was known as "Grandpa" to neighborhood children.
Haefner was killed June 17, 2009, at the Silver Spring Variety Store, where he sold candy and soda.
The Journal Sentinel reports Jordan's family turned him in after his mother found candy in his bed, and he told a cousin he was involved in Haefner's robbery and murder.
With his mother's permission, detectives searched Jordan's bedroom and found a sawed-off shotgun and a camouflage jacket like one witness had described the suspect as wearing.
