MADISON (WKOW) -- Heavy fog canceled dozens of flights at Dane County Regional Airport Thursday, sending Badgers fans scrambling to find ways to Pasadena.

"It's pretty frustrating because this is a bucket list item," said Terri Peterson, who decided to rent a car and drive to Chicago to try to make her connecting flight.

"It's not like it comes every year and you have that opportunity."

American Airlines nixed all of their morning flights Thursday. Delta Airlines decided to bus some passengers to Minneapolis to escape the fog.

"Weather in Wisconsin in particular in the winter time is always variable. Check with the airline before heading out to the airport to make sure there aren't those delays and cancellations, or if there are, they can make other arrangements," said airport spokesperson Jennifer Miller.

That's exactly what Joan Cressman was trying to do.

She's a California native who came to Wisconsin to visit her mother this holiday. Her afternoon flight was canceled, now she's hoping to catch another plane to L.A. from the standby list.

"They had me booked on January 1st, which is not going to work because I have friends coming over for New Year's and I'm taking people to the game," she said.

Cressman is putting all her hopes in a flight originating from Atlanta, and if that doesn't work she says she's bracing herself for the fact that someone else will have to use her tickets.
