Former defense official's body found in landfill; police investigating
NEWARK, Delaware (WKOW) -- Newark police say a former prominent national defense official, who also served in the Bush and Reagan Administrations appeared confused and disoriented at an office building in Wilmington about 12 hours before his body was found dumped in a landfill nearby.
Surveillance video shows a disoriented John "Jack" Wheeler pacing up and down hallways wearing only one shoe.
Police say Wheeler refused help from several people who approached him the evening before his body was found. Some have suggested his prior top secret government clearance may have made him the target of a "hit." But he was also in a property dispute with a neighbor and may have tried to firebomb their house. The death is being treated as a homicide.
