9-year-old girl killed in AZ shootings

TUCSON, Ariz. (WKOW) --  A 9-year-old girl was one of the six people killed Saturday when a gunman opened fire as Rep. Gabrielle Giffords met constituents outside a supermarket in Tucson.

The child's name is Christina-Taylor Green and she was recently elected to her school's student council. Her uncle told the Arizona Republic that a neighbor invited Green to attend the event because of her interest in government.

Green was born on Sept. 11, 2001. She was featured in a book titled "Faces of Hope" that chronicled one baby from each state born on the day the terrorist attacks took the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

The girl's grandfather is Dallas Green, former manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Her father, John Green, is a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt says the team lost a member of the Dodgers family, and the organization will do everything it can to support scout John Green, his wife Roxana and their son Dallas.

McCourt described the shootings as "a senseless tragedy." He says he has spoken to John Green.
