MADISON (WKOW)-- It was heart-breaking and heart-warming all at the same time to see such pain and physical destruction in Haiti following the earthquake.
But yet the immense compassion and care from our neighbors here in Wisconsin for the Haitians was nothing short of inspiring.
Progress is being made in Haiti since the earthquake thanks to your donations and local people's efforts to save lives there.
In the spring of 2010, you may remember WKOW followed a number of people from the Madison area including many medical professionals.
From helping moms deliver their babies, to handing out vitamins, to treating common ailments we take for granted area doctors and nurses gave critical medical care.
We also showed you proof your donations to the Red Cross were reaching those who needed it the most.
We saw essential items being handed out at a distribution site like buckets to catch rain water and tarps to protect their make-shift homes from the rain.
Donations continued for WKOW's live, one-hour fund raising special called 'Lifeline to Haiti.'
People from all over the state donated nearly $10,000 in just one hour.
