TUCSON (WKOW) -- Hospital officials in Arizona have upgraded congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' condition from critical to serious.
On Saturday, doctors removed her from a respirator as she continued to amaze them with her progress.
Meanwhile, two senators are calling for more civility after last week's tragedy.
Democratic senator Charles Schumer and Republican Tom Coburn said on NBC's Meet the Press they would sit together at President Obama's State of the Union address.
Lawmakers typically only sit with their own party.
"I think we as elected officials have an obligation to tone down and if we do tone it down, maybe the media will we be less vociferous," said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York.
Six people were killed in the shooting rampage. Jared Lee Loughner, 22, is in federal custody and charged in the shootings.
