MADISON (WKOW) -- Here is a list of snow emergencies in the area.
Beloit has declared a snow emergency from noon Monday, January 17, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Janesville has declared a snow emergency for January 17 starting at 10PM. A snow emergency means that all parked vehicles must be removed from city streets and public parking lots until snow plowing operations are complete. To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, please move your vehicle prior to 10PM and keep your vehicle off city streets until they have been completely plowed. The best place to park during a snow emergency is in your garage or driveway. If you are unable to park in a driveway or garage, please park in one of the designated snow emergency parking stalls. These stalls are located in the six downtown municipal parking lots listed: East Wall Street Lot at East Wall Street & North Parker Drive, Municipal Building Lot at West Wall Street & North Jackson Street, South High Street Lot at West Court Street & South High Street, Senior Center Lot at St. Lawrence Avenue & Water Street, Hedberg Public Library Lot on Water Street, River/Union Street Lot at South River Street & Union Street. When you arrive at the lot, look for the signs designating the snow emergency parking stalls. Fines for parking on the streets during a snow emergency are $20. The Police Department may begin issuing tickets to violators before plowing operations begin. Janesville residents can get additional snow emergency information by calling 755-SNOW. Monona has declared a snow emergency effective 11:59 p.m., Monday, Jan. 17 until noon on Tuesday, Jan. 18. The police department will be towing vehicles that are parked on any Monona street obstructing the snow removal operation. It is essential to have the roadways clear so that Public Works personnel can clear streets during the early morning hours. All City of Monona Park parking lots can be used to park vehicles until the end of the snow emergency.
Portage has declared a snow emergency; beginning at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, parking is prohibited on all signed snow routes. At 4 a.m., parking is prohibited on all other streets, except the Central Business District. In that district, parking is prohibited from 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17 until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18. Vehicles not complying with these parking regulations are subject to a fine. These vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense. The snow emergencies will remain in effect for 48 hours or until it is canceled by the Street Superintendent. If you have questions, call the 24 hour snow emergency hotline at 608-742-2176 ext. 335.
Sun Prairie has declared a Snow Emergency Warning effective immediately on Monday, January 17, 2011. A Snow Emergency is declared when snow depth reaches 3'' in depth or greater. This Snow Emergency remains in effect until noon Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Cars parked on the street in violation of this ordinance can receive a $50 citation.
