Counting deer

MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin plans to trap dozens of deer this week in the northeast part of the state, as part of a long-range study to estimate the deer population.

The DNR says the trapping will take place in a 30-mile radius of the Navarino Wildlife Area in southeast Shawano County, and estimate it will take 4-to-5 days.

The DNR wants to learn more about the survival rates of deer, and they want a better understanding of when and how they die. Officials say they will use a helicopter and a net gun to capture the animals.
