Appeals court sides with Sauk Co. sheriff over board member
MADISON (WKOW) -- A state appeals court has sided with a Sauk County sheriff who denied an open records request from a county board member.
The court ruled Thursday in favor of former Sheriff Randy Stammen. He had turned down Thomas Kriegl's request for information related to inmates on work release.
Kriegl had asked for specific reports and data, but the sheriff said someone would have to dig through 100,000 pages of documents to track down the information.
A circuit court sided with Stammen, though it didn't give a reason for denying Stammen's request to have Kriegl pay his attorneys' fees. A state appeals court ordered the circuit court to reconsider that part of the decision.
