COLUMBIA, Mo. (WKOW) -- A monster storm is affecting areas from the Rockies to New England, covering about a third of the nation in white. Heavy snow and ice is expected, followed by a wave of bitter, bone-chilling cold.

Cities like St. Louis, Kansas City and Milwaukee will potentially be hit the hardest. Up to 2 feet of snowfalls and drift piled 5 to 10 feet are expected by midweek.
In Chicago, 20 inches of snow is forecasted. If that really happens, it would be the windy city's third-biggest snowstorm in history.
Freezing rain has covered roads across the Plains. Two school buses slid off the icy roads in Kansas City, Mo. Hundreds of crashes are reported in Minnesota statewide.
