MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison School District decided to close schools Wednesday after more than 40 percent of teachers called in sick.
The teachers union asked district superintendent Dan Nerad to shut the doors so all able teachers can go to a rally at the Capitol to protest Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill, which would strip most state and local workers of collective bargaining rights, except when negotiating salary.
At a news conference around noon on Wednesday, Gov. Walker said it's unfortunate MMSD schools are closed.
Teresa Mackin is talking with parents, teachers, the Superintendent and more about the issue, and what parents can expect Thursday.
