Iran's protests continue

IRAN (WKOW) -- Tensions are high in Iran again today. Thousands of chanting worshippers have called for the execution of two opposition leaders, in response to anti-government protests earlier this week.

The chants against opposition figures Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi were heard during Muslim prayer services Friday in Tehran. On Monday, Iran's opposition brought out tens of thousands of supporters in a first significant show of strength in more than a year. Two people were killed in clashes.

Pro-government hardliners have demanded that Mousavi and Karroubi be tried and executed.  Late Thursday, Karroubi's web site quoted him as saying he is willing to stand trial, provided it is open. Mousavi and Karroubi lead a protest movement that grew out of disputed presidential election in 2009.
