Sen. Scott Fitzgerald's wife gets preliminary layoff notice
Senate majority leader Scott Fitzgerald
HUSTISFORD (WKOW) -- Wisconsin Senate majority leader Scott Fitzgerald's wife is one of the state employees who received preliminary layoff notices this week.
Lisa Fitzgerald is a counselor for the Hustisford School District. She received a preliminary layoff notice from the district this week.
Hustisford Superintendent Jeremy Biehl says the school board decided to send out preliminary layoff slips to all 34 members of the teaching staff. That includes librarians and counselors. The decision was made Wednesday night. Biehl says the action was taken because of uncertainty surrounding the state's budget bill.
Biehl says the district is following advice given by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. The Association urged school officials to decide on staff cuts by Monday, or risk having those layoffs challenged later in court. State law requires school districts to provide staff final layoff notices by March 15, and preliminary notices must go out 15 days before that.
