GREEN BAY, Wis. (WKOW)-- A Wisconsin farmer accused of setting off a bomb that damaged three fishing boats has waived his preliminary hearing in federal court.
A criminal complaint says 47-year-old Joseph Sloma of Denmark and another man ignited a pipe bomb in a charter fishing boat called the Trout Scout in September of 2009. The explosion caused a fire that spread to two other boats and damaged a nearby pleasure boat. Sloma is expected to appear before a federal court in the next 30 days for possible indictment.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports the cause of the explosion was initially unknown. Seven months after the incident, an informant told investigators Sloma detonated the bomb because he didn't like the owner of the Trout Scout.
