MADISON (WKOW) -- Sen. Mark Miller (D-Monona) issued a statement following the Senate's passage of a bill that would strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers.
"In thirty minutes, 18 State Senators undid fifty years of civil rights in Wisconsin."
"Their disrespect for the people of Wisconsin and their rights is an outrage that will never be forgotten."
"Tonight, 18 Senate Republicans conspired to take government away from the people."
"Tomorrow we will join the people of Wisconsin in taking back their government."
Miller and 13 other Senate Democrats fled to Illinois nearly three weeks ago to prevent the Senate from having enough members present to consider Gov. Walker's budget repair bill. On Wednesday, Republicans split from the legislation the proposal to curtail union rights, and a special conference committee of state lawmakers approved that bill a short time later.
The move set up a vote in the Senate, which voted mere moments later.
