BEIJING (WKOW) -- Just as news is breaking about the massive 8.9 earthquake hits Japan and causes damage, China releases details about damages and deaths from their latest earthquake.
The government says more than 3,600 homes were destroyed in a moderate earthquake that killed 25 people in southwestern China. The Civil Affairs Ministry says on its website that another 11,3000 homes were badly damaged in Thursday's quake in a mountainous area in Yunnan province. It's located near the border with Myanmar.
Those figures revise a state media report that said 18,000 houses and apartment buildings had buckled and fell. More than 127,000 of Yingjiang county's 300,000 people have been displaced by the temblor which Chinese authorities measured at a magnitude 5.8.
