MADISON (WKOW) -- According to a statement released by University Communications, the UW-Madison has made contact with all 14 students that are studying abroad in Japan now and confirmed their safety.
The programs the students are in are based in four universities in Tokyo, Nagoya and Sapporo.
According to the university, as of 5 p.m. Friday, March 11, all students have been reached. Communications were complicated by power and cellular outages.
John Lucas of University Communications said it's still early to comment on whether the 14 students will continue their study there or come back early. He said some schools haven't even started the semester yet.
