Downtown business adapts to protests

MADISON (WKOW) -- Some downtown businesses have had to adapt to the protests at the Capitol.

Managers at Capitol Kids, a kids store in downtown Madison, say they were seeing an increase in traffic to use their restrooms and come in from the cold during protests. In response, the store decided to cater to those who were at the Capitol. Capitol Kids started carrying "solidarity" and "teach me how to protest" T-shirts.

"We've only had T-shirts for about two weeks, said Peg Scholtes, proprietor of Capitol Kids. It seemed to be something that wasn't going to go away and people really wanted to have things to mark the protests of this year."

Capitol Kids started carrying adult t-shirt sizes as well. They're waiting for even more orders to come in.

While business has boomed at some downtown shops and restaurants, others have struggled these past few weeks.
