Jefferson Awards Celebration

MADISON (WKOW)-- WKOW is honoring local people who are giving back to their community.

It's called the Jefferson Awards.

It's considered the 'Nobel Peace Prize for volunteering.'

The national awards began more than 30 years ago.

WKOW brought the Jefferson Awards to Madison 2 years ago.

We recognize a local volunteer each month and presented the last year's recipients with the Jefferson Award medallion.

All of these people are doing amazing things in our communities like feeding the hungry, helping the homeless, making sure our soldiers overseas are not forgotten.

Here is the list of recipients from the last year:

  • April: Bob Eby
  • May: Jordyn Schara
  • June: Kathy Schumacher
  • July: Linda Hughes
  • August: Tom Hillebrand
  • September: Sally Kressin
  • October: Kim & Randy Tews
  • November: Carol Morris
  • December: Buddy Lee
  • January: Jenny & Andy Czerkas
  • February: Michelle Harris
  • March: Chris & Carol Zindorf
