MADISON (WKOW) -- In a legal filing, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne says a judge properly blocked publication of the budget repair bill.
Ozanne filed a brief Tuesday arguing a judge can block publication of statutes that flow from a clear violation of the open meetings law. A prosecutor's power to enforce the open meetings law would otherwise be "eviscerated."
Ozanne has accused Republican lawmakers of violating the state's open meetings law during debate on the budget repair bill. On Friday, Judge Maryann Sumi issued a temporary restraining order halting publication of the law, the last step before it can take effect.
On Monday, the state Justice Department filed documents with a state appeals court arguing that Sumi improperly stopped the legislative process.
