MADISON (WKOW) -- Newly elected State Treasurer Kurt Schuller wants to take one for the team.
State Treasurer Kurt Schuller will hold a news conference today to release the Joint Resolution he has drafted to amend the State Constitution of Wisconsin and eliminate the Office of State Treasurer and Secretary of State.
According to Schuller's spokesperson, the bill already has support in the Legislature.
The biennial budget proposed by Scott Walker cuts the office's budget by almost fifty percent. But Schuller is willing to go one step further.
Schuller campaigned on the idea that he would eventually attempt to ax the position for good. He argued that the state treasurer was simply not needed.
Schuller has stated that he hopes this move will help him "build a credible political resume" that will hopefully allow him to run for another political office.
